Lake Cazaux-Sanguinet
Coming to the Landes is also an opportunity to visit the region’s many lakes. Most of the large Landes lakes have beaches (often supervised in summer), hiking trails and one or more water sports centers. So you can try your hand at windsurfing, wakeboarding, water-skiing, towed buoys, stand-up paddling, canoeing, pedal-boating and more. All in all, a great time with family and friends!
Each lake has its own special features to suit every taste:
- When you visit Biscarrosse, you’ll discover a seaside resort situated between two large lakes in the Landes region. To the north is Lac de Cazaux-Sanguinet, ranked the 2nd largest lake in France at 55 km². With its aquapark, it’s a thrill for young and old alike. To the south, the Lac de Parentis-Biscarrosse is also well known, but this time for its hydrobase and hydraviation museum.
- The Lac d’Aureilhan et Mimizan is a must-see flower-bedecked promenade, but is also a popular fishing spot.
- Situated closest to the Eurosol campsite, the Lac de Léon is the perfect place for discovery lovers to follow the footpaths or take a punt on the splendid Huchet stream.
- The marine lake of Port-d’Albret, located in Vieux-boucau and linked to the ocean, rent a boat or pedalo to go to the wild island in the center of the lake for a guaranteed change of scenery. Not far from this marine lake, Lac de Soustons is home to a number of water sports centres.
- Last but not least, the Lac d’Hossegor, the most southerly of the Landes region, offers an idyllic setting for tasting locally-produced oysters – a must for epicureans!
